There are lots of places to visit for all tastes and ages. Sheringham is the home of The North Norfolk Railway with a wonderfully restored station to explore. Running on “The Poppy Line” regular trains will take you on a nostalgic steam trip from Sheringham to Weybourne and Holt and it also connects to the main line station to Norwich. Other top places to visit in the town include Sheringham Museum at The Mo, with a section on the off-shore wind farm and a viewing tower giving a splendid coastal panorama, the Peter Coke Shell Gallery, the Fisherman’s Heritage Centre, the Lifeboat Station, Oddfellows Hall – home of the Sheringham Shantymen, and the Priory Maze and Gardens. You’ll find a variety of entertainment at The Little Theatre, offering live theatre, music and film screenings and a summer rep season. For those seeking gentle outdoor pursuits away from the beach, the town has two pitch and put courses and a boating lake for model sailing.
A little further afield you’ll find the Hilltop Outdoor Centre for family adventure days, Muckleburgh Military Collection, Hillside Shire Horse Sanctuary at West Runton, and the fascinating ruins of Baconsthorpe Castle.
There are miles of cliff walks past Beeston Bump, just above the cottage, to West Runton and Cromer and Weybourne in the other direction and for the birdwatcher the famous sites of Blakeney, Cley and Titchwell are only a few miles away. Pretty Corner Woods and Beeston Common are within easy reach on foot from the town and much of the coastline has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty by The National Trust, which has several properties in the area, including Sheringham Park, offering splendid walks through bluebells and rhododendrons and Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate. The area boasts several fine golf courses including one at Sheringham and facilities for sailing, riding, wind-surfing and fishing are all nearby so whether you are seeking a family holiday with lots to keep the children amused, outdoor activities or just rest and relaxation, Sheringham is the place to be!
